Data modelling tools let the Data analysis and data modeller solve challenges, avoid risk and transform how they interact with the stakeholders. Get the data model right, and you are on your way. Get it wrong, and you will waste development life cycles trying to solve problems that you could avoid.
The question what does it take to be a good data modeller? The skill requirements goes beyond knowledge about how to create and maintain a data model. A person with know-how can create a model that is structurally correct, but building one that is accurate from a business perspective take more than a basic data modelling skills
Today, at the intersection of business, technology and data, organisations need a data artist. Someone who has the skill to converse in all three languages and weave a symphony. The Data modeller with an Artist vision who is not too obsessed on the science of data, but the stories that data tells. Think of the data modeller as a photographer. This person takes pictures documenting reality at any level of details and gives the viewer the ability to find answers. The art of photography in data modelling doesn’t simply reflect true life but add a little something, helping our understanding of the subject in term of showing the subject of interest from a particular viewpoint and focus our attention on something they have found to be important.
